A Warrior Is Born...
Mikey Wright With An Original Jackson Warrior
The Jackson Warrior guitar is beyond any doubt one of the most hard hitting and coolest
looking Metal guitars on the market. This guitar just flat SCREAMS with attitude. In 1989 an R&D designer named Mikey Wright
introduced the Warrior design which was five pointed with a pointed headstock and four body horns, as can be seen in the picture
below.
1990 Jackson Warrior
The design of the original Jackson Warrior guitar differed from the modern design in a couple of ways. The guitars had three
single coil sized pickups - one at the neck and two at the bridge. In addition, the pickups were slanted and the neck itself
was slanted to match the pickup configuration. The original Warriors had a five position selector switch that allowed using different
combinations of the pickups in the manner of the Fender Stratocaster.
In addition, the guitars had an active EQ tone circuit that
allowed a range of tonal variations. It was somewhat like using a modern wah pedal as a tone filter except, of course, you can't dial
in tonal variations with a wah. Their hardware included Jackson tuning machines with a Schaller made Jackson double locking tremolo.
The original Jackson Warrior was an absolute tone monster with a neck-thru-body design sporting a poplar body and a maple neck. In addition,
the typical Jackson compound radius fretboard and heel-less neck joint made the Warrior a great playing guitar.
There were two models made originally,
the Pro and USA models. The Pro sold for around $1000 and the USA model went for around $1100. The quality of both was identical, being the superbly
high quality of all Jacksons. The only real differences were that the Pro was made in Japan, the USA obviously in the USA and the USA model
had more color and graphics choices available.
For some reason, Jackson discontinued the Warrior guitar line in 1991. Why you would drop one of the best and most popular guitars
in your lineup makes no sense to me but there was apparently something that Jackson considered to a good business case for doing so.
The Warrior Is Reborn...
In 2001, Jackson revived the Warrior line. The quality of the modern Jackson Warrior guitars is easily on a par with the quality of
the original Warrior guitars. The design of the guitars is slightly different than that of the originals. Today, only the USA models
get the neck-thru construction. In addition, they are fitted with Seymour Duncan pickups and Floyd Rose Original double locking tremolos.
The overseas made models are all of bolt-on neck construction and feature a variety of pickups from Duncans, to EMGs to Jackson makes.
The Jackson Warrior guitar is currently offered in four Series - the entry level JS series, the mid-level X and MG Series and the top of the line
USA Select Series. Prices range from around $300 to $2500. Regardless of the price point the quality of the Warrior guitar is better than
that of any other guitar for a given price point. You won't find ANY poor quality Jackson guitar, regardless of the price point or model.

My Personal Take..
As you may know, if you've visited other parts of the site, I love Jackson electric guitars. I own a Custom Jackson Kelly KE2
and a Jackson Rhoads RR5. I have other great guitars but those two are the crown jewels of my collection. There will be a Jackson USA Select
WR1 Warrior sitting in my studio as soon as I can convince my wife that I need another guitar.
